On Thursday, Dec. 11, the LSW show choirs will premiere their competition shows for the public to watch. The understudy soloists will perform at 6:30 p.m. followed by the competitive soloists at 8:00 p.m. The premiere will have performances from the Resonance, Ambience and Emergence show choirs along with the Echo Show Band and Shadow tech crew.
“Our varsity competition ensemble Resonance is doing Tom and Jerry, and it’s mostly a simple game of cat and mouse. It’s more of a concept show than a story show,” senior Joshua Carl said. “The costumes really tell the story, because in the first half of the show, the ensemble is on the outside looking in, as if they’re watching Tom and Jerry on the TV. However, near the halfway point, the ensemble gets integrated into the show.”
Each choir’s competition show has a different theme. The theme for Resonance show choir’s show is “Tom and Jerry.” They bring this theme to life in their performance through elaborate costuming and cartoony props. Ambience’s show will feature brightly colored costumes and solos done by fellow students in the ensemble
“Our costumes are green and red and we do a costume change in the middle,” sophomore Gracie Kathman said. “It’s genuinely so interesting to watch everybody together because it just looks so cool to the people watching.”
Tickets for the show choir premiere are $9 and can be purchased via the link on the LSW Vocal Music program’s Instagram (@lswvocalmusic) or from scanning the QR code on the posters around the school hallways.
“If you love the fine arts, if you love supporting those who perform and put on a show for anybody, the show choir premiere is a great place to come and support fellow students who have been working their butts off to get ready for the competition season,” Carl said. “The premiere is just a great way to kick off the season with high energy and high hopes.”
