Japanese Club met after school on Thursday, Dec. 12. They exchanged gifts and ate snacks while watching the Studio Ghibli film, Spirited Away.

Students received and gave gifts with all kinds of goodies inside. They brought Japanese snacks like Ramunes, Pocky Sticks, and Koala Cookies.

The movie, Spirited Away, was displayed in all Japanese but subtitles were provided.

“I watched it a while ago and I thought it was pretty,” said sophomore Olivia Woods. “I think if I watched it again I’d understand it more.”

Some members had an easier time understanding the movie because of their previous knowledge of Japanese.

“I don’t know that much Japanese, I’ve only taken one of the levels,” said sophomore Hannah Nigh. “I understand most of it because I’ve watched it before but if you know a little bit of the words you can mush it together and understand.”

This movie day allowed the Japanese Club members to gain a better understanding of the culture and and learn more about the language. Japanese Club meets some days in room A105. If you’re interested in attending Japanese Club speak to Ms. Cunningham for official dates of events.
