On Thursday, Sept. 5, the Southwest freshman volleyball team played Kearney High. They lost in two sets, playing at home. Though the team lost, they felt they kept up the effort throughout the game.

“I definitely think we could have played better, but we did play hard and kept pushing throughout the whole game,” freshman Berkeley Bales said.

While the team dealt with a tough loss, they are making improvements from their previous games.

“We just played more like a team and less like individuals,” Bales said.

Working on their communication has helped them perform more like a team, but there is still room to improve.

“I think that we just need to talk more,” freshman Hailey Stark said. “It’s always hard when you first meet new people, so I think we just need to get that connection and we’ll get there,” Stark said.

The team’s next game is Thursday, Sept. 12. They are facing Westside at Lincoln Southwest at 5:30 pm.
