The Lincoln Southwest varsity volleyball team fell to the Norris Titans in their first game of the season 3-1 on Thursday, Aug. 19 at home.

“My role on the team is to find open holes and score against the other team, but we did not do as well as we could have,” sophomore Malyah Long said. “As a whole, we need to work on passing and getting out all of our jitters as a team.”

The Silver Hawks did not go down without a fight, however. In the first set, Southwest took a hit 25-15, but bounced back to win the second set 25-22. The non-conference Titans took the third set 25-20, and the fourth set 25-15.

“Last night, after the game, we had a talk about things we did well and things we did not,” head coach Mark Novotny said. “It was all about realizing how mental the game of volleyball is. We didn’t show the crowd what we were capable of, and we will be working on that for next week.”

The next game and the first conference game for the Silver Hawks will be on Thursday, Aug. 26 at Norfolk High School at 6:30 p.m.
