For the second game of the season on Thursday, Sept. 1, the Silver Hawks took a win in Columbus, 29-7.

“I think we played really well and I feel like we put our all into that game and had fun while doing it. We played really well because of all of our long practices and all the team meetings we have had to build our team so no one is left out,” junior kicker Ashton Gazga said. “If we keep up this energy and this intensity and this chemistry I feel like we could go undefeated this year and take State.”

Gazga was awarded the special teams player of the game. He had five points in total in only two games and averaged 49.3 yards per kick off.

“When I make an extra point everyone is happy I made it, and then we have really good energy going in to kick off to where we can hit someone and get the ball back.”

Senior nose guard Cole Luedtke, senior tight end Grant Berry, senior middle linebacker Kaalo Evans, were also selected for the Lincoln Southwest Football Players of the Game.

Up next for Southwest is Papillion-LaVista on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Papillion-LaVista.
