The boys varsity soccer team won their first home game 3-0 against Lincoln North Star on Tuesday, March 19. The Hawks remain undefeated for the season at 3-0.
“We had some guys back from injury so that helped us win,” junior Landon Holberg said. “I feel like I personally did well. I got a goal and I also felt like I did a good job maintaining possession, checking back on defense and helping the team overall.”
Their victory marked the eighth consecutive win against North Star dating back to April 7, 2018, where the Hawks won 2-1.
“Our team chemistry is really good so that is what is helping us win games,” senior Derek Bestman said. “Everyday we are practicing, it is really intense during practices which leads to good games.”
One of the Hawks strongest aspects of their games has been their defense. In their three games this season, they have given up one goal.
“Our defensive attributes are very important to our team,” Holmberg said. “We have scored some goals but I think most importantly we haven’t allowed goals to get scored on us.”
The Hawks will play Creighton Prep on Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m. at Seacrest Field.
“We know that (Creighton) Prep is super good and we’re watching game film on them right now,” Holmberg said. “We’re getting mentally prepared and getting our bodies back into shape after getting beat up against North Star.”
