The Lincoln Southwest girls Varsity basketball team won Saturday’s home game against the Kearney Bearcats, 62-31.

LSW led at half by a score of 27-12.

“We have really good team chemistry,” junior Emerson Barada said. “We play really well as a team and our defense is really good this season.”

Barada and senior Hannah Kelle led the team with most points scored. Kelle with 11 points and Barada with 10.

“Any team can beat anyone right now so it’s really hard to expect to win or lose,” Kelle said. “We’ve had ups and downs but right now I think we’re on the up.”

The girls were scheduled to play on Wednesday, Jan. 23 against Fremont but the game was cancelled due to harsh weather conditions.

Southwest will be playing their next game at Westside.

“Our game against Omaha Westside is gonna be tough. They’re one of the best teams in the state,” coach Jeff Rump said. “It’ll be a battle.”

The game will be held on Jan. 24 at 7:15 p.m.
