The Lincoln Southwest Varsity wrestling team achieved their 250th dual win on Wednesday Jan. 19. Takedown for the Troops is an event that raises money for the Disabled American Veterans charity. This year, they raised over $7,300 for veterans.

“I had two goals of course, for the boys to win the dual and raise as much money as we could for the DAV,” head coach Aaron Finley said. “We really just want to give back to the community, and the Disabled American Veterans group doesn’t get as much recognition as they should.”

The score for the night was 54-16 with Hawks taking the win. Highlights of the match included junior Tony Phillips winning by a pin in 1:17, senior Landan McLaughlin winning by a pin in 2:18, senior Everett Swartz winning by a pin in 59 seconds, and senior Braxton Peters winning 2-1.

“Wrestling is all about reacting and making a plan based on what the other person does,” senior Braxton Peters said. “It’s really stressful trying to figure out what the best course of action is.”

The Varsity wrestling team took on Creighton Prep and Millard South in a triangular Tuesday Jan. 25, and won against Prep 40-28.
