All four of the Lincoln Southwest baseball teams started off their season last week.

The freshman team won 9-6 against Columbus on Monday, March 21. They also played a doubleheader on Saturday, March 26 that resulted in a loss against Lincoln North Star, 9-4, and taking the win over Lincoln Northeast, 3-2.

The reserve team won their game on Tuesday, March 22 against Columbus, 9-6 and lost their game on Saturday, March 26, 6-5 against Pappilion La Vista South.

“I think we have a promising season ahead,” sophomore Alex Berry said. “Our team is very young with a lot of freshmen, and in our last game we really got our bats going, so I think we will have a good rest of the season.”

The junior varsity team played a doubleheader against Grand Island Senior High, losing both games. The first game’s score was 4-3, and the second was 7-2.

The varsity team won their game against Columbus on Tuesday, March 22, 4-1 and lost the second game against Pappilion La Vista South, 5-3 on Saturday March 26.

“Last week we experienced a couple wins and losses,” head coach Mitch Vernon said. “I think that if we understand what good baseball looks like, and we can get a feel for how the rest of the Class A teams are playing we can definitely compete and pull through.”

The varsity team has their next game Tuesday, March 29 against Lincoln Southeast at 4:30 p.m. at Den Hartog Field.
