Millard West Defeats Varsity Volleyball

On Thursday, Oct. 3, Southwest played Millard South. LSW lost 3-1 at home.

The team played well. However, there are things they feel they could improve on.

“At certain times we played really well, but others we kinda broke down communication and just basic skills like serving and who is going to go for the ball,” sophomore Shaylee Myers said.

Teammates agree with Myers on this. The second set went well, but the energy wasn’t consistent throughout.

“We had some up and down moments. In the second set we had a lot of energy, but I feel like it didn’t really carry over into the third set. Fourth set we were just trying to get the energy back,” sophmore Courtney Holsteen said.

As long as the team can make these changes, the future looks good for the Hawks.

“I think we just need to learn to come together better and have more trust between each other and we’ll be perfectly fine,” Myers said.

Millard West was stiff competition. They are ranked, but Southwest feels they are right in the mix as well.

“They’re a really good team but we always have a chance of beating the best team and taking their spot,” said Holsteen.

The Hawks play next on Tuesday, Oct. 8 vs Lincoln Northeast. They play at 6:30 at home.
