Lincoln Southwest’s show choirs took part in the Spartan Spectacular at Lincoln East. On Saturday, Jan. 29. The varsity show choir placed second overall, and the prep group placed first in their division. Senior John Greisen was awarded best male soloist, and the band received the Best Band Award.

“Winning best male soloist this year was really exciting and it shows that hard work pays off,” Griesen said. “Our show choir has really bonded this year. We’ve learned that we don’t have to win every time and it’s more about making other people smile in the audience. That’s more rewarding than a trophy.”

Southwest, Elkorn, Pius, Norris and Millard North performed for the judges in the preliminary round. Best male and female soloists, as well as best band, vocals and choreography were also awarded.

“I really like doing show choir. It’s a lot of fun. I got into it because of my brother,” junior Alex Bjorman said. “It’s been my favorite activity I’ve done at school since and I’m hyperactive in school activities.”

Southwest is hosting the Southwest Showdown next Saturday, Feb. 12. The prep show choir group will have their exhibition at 12:25 p.m. and the varsity show choir group will have their exhibition at 4:30 p.m.
