On Monday, Aug. 15, at 12:05 p.m. the club fair was held in the practice gym for freshmen to be introduced to clubs available at Southwest. Some clubs had a booth they set up to help teach freshmen about their club as well as get many students interested in joining. The clubs available to learn about were Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Student Council, Hive Helpers, Genders and Sexualities Alliance (GSA), Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Drama Club, Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), Science Olympiad, Teens Influencing Equity (TIE), Speech and Debate, Black Caucus, DECA, Japanese Club, Kaleidoscope Club, National Honor Society (NHS), Students Together Against Cancer (STAC) and Unified Club.

“I liked getting to see the freshmen be excited about all the opportunities that Southwest has,” T.I.E. Club sponsor, Mrs. Melanie Gross said. “One of the neat things as a club sponsor is to get to see how many of our leaders are involved in multiple things. It was good to see we have so many students who are involved. I think that’s good for the freshmen to see as well.”

Around 510 freshmen attended the club fair. If a freshman was looking in a certain club there were student ambassadors located in the middle of the gym for assistance.

“Everyone was very nice,” freshman Silvy Munn said. “It was helpful that people explained what all the clubs are going to be like.”

Some clubs will be starting up next week from Aug. 22 – 26.
