On Wednesday, Oct. 24, the 9th grade LPS Volleyball Tournament was held at Southwest High School.

Southwest was seeded second, giving them a by on the first round and automatically advancing to the next round.

“The freshman tournament gets seated by records for the year, our record was about 500,” Coach Ashli True said.

To kick off the tourney, East faced Northeast and Lincoln North Star faced East at 4:00 p.m.

Both East and North Star advanced to the second round

Southeast and East then played game three at 4:45 p.m. Southeast took that match, sending East to the third place bracket and Southeast to the championship match.

North Star faced Southwest at 4:45 p.m. Southwest advanced to the finals by taking the first 2 sets, sending the Hawks to the championship game.

“Autumn Hill played really well,” freshman Kylie Briggs said. “She had a lot of good kills in both of our matches.”

In the finals, Southwest took on Southeast. Southeast captured the first set. Southwest took the second. In the third set, Southwest seemed to have a strong lead in the beginning, but Southeast was able to recover to claim the third set, going 15-12 and winning the tournament.

“I think we played the best we have this season,” freshman Avery Tomlinson said.
