This year a new show choir group, Emergence, will begin.

The group does not require an audition. The only requirement for students to join Emergence is they must be enrolled in a concert choir all year.

“We decided to make a no-audition group because we wanted to get more students involved in show choir and regular concert choir,” show choir director Andrew Jacobson said. “It’s a great opportunity to let students of all grade levels have a first taste of show choir. It shows students all the different opportunities that are opened up by doing show choir and choir.”

The group will practice every Monday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The first practice will be on Tuesday, Aug. 30.

“I’m excited to be able to sing, dance and make new friends,” senior Katelyn Kreis said. “Singing and dancing are some of my favorite hobbies. I’m not nervous about performing because I think it is super fun and exciting.”

They will have opportunities to perform. They will perform at a showcase in December and the final season performance in March. The group will also attend three show choir events where they won’t compete but will receive critiques from judges.

“I am excited for students to have another avenue to be on stage,” Jacobson said. “COVID-19 hit everyone really hard so it makes it even more special when students get to shine up on that stage.”
