On Tuesday, Dec. 19, from 2:15 – 3:15 p.m, Lincoln Southwest High School will be hosting their final monthly food market for the 2023 calendar year.
The food market is a partnership between Southwest and the Lincoln Food Bank where students can pick up a bag of food to take home with them. The food is free, the only information that students need to provide is the number of people in their family. This helps Lincoln Food Bank maintain records and ensure that the families get enough.
“Oftentimes, people don’t think of Southwest as having kids who could be food insecure,” student counselor Mr. Anders Peterson said. “I would encourage all students who need it to utilize the food market. It’s free and it’s good food. Student’s don’t have to apply for free and reduced lunch, we don’t deny access to students in need.”
The food market occurs once a month. However, the school offers a food pantry for students in need to access those resources at any point in time. To do so, they just need to ask the counselors for a bag of food.
