Applications Available for 2020-21 NHS Chapter
February 14, 2020
Lincoln Southwest juniors have the opportunity to join National Honors Society for the 2020-21 school year.
According to the Lincoln Southwest NHS website, in order to become a member of LSW’s National Honor Society one must be a member of the senior class and meet the four pillars of Service, Leadership, Scholarship, and Character.
After completing the first semester of your junior year a report will be run calculating your GPA. Students who have a minimum average weighted GPA of 3.75 or higher meet the Scholarship pillar and will receive a letter in the mail inviting them to apply to be a member of LSW’s National Honor Society.
“Filling out my application was a struggle,” senior Jessie Harlan said. “My advice is to do your application early so you don’t get into a bind the day before the application is due.”
Individuals who meet this Scholarship pillar will also be asked to attend an informational meeting with the NHS advisor and fill out an application detailing their leadership, character, and service experience.
“NHS has been a fun way to connect with others who also want to make a difference in our school,” president Tatum Johnson said. “It’s rewarding to form lasting friendships while working together to positively impact the community.”
Applications will be reviewed for membership by the LSW NHS Faculty Council. If selected, induction into the chapter will take place during the spring of the student’s junior year, with active membership beginning the start of their senior year.
“I love being in NHS,” senior Jordyn Svoboda said. “It gives me a platform to help those who are less fortunate than I am.”
Applications for the 2020-21 NHS chapter applicants are due Friday, Feb. 14.
