On Thursday Aug. 22, the Hawks varsity volleyball kicked off their season gaining a win against Seward and a loss against Norris.

“I thought our team energy was good last night and we all played well together,” junior Liz Tomlin said. “We need to improve on getting used to each other. We have four different setters so adjusting to their different paces can be tough.”

Southwest won their first game against Seward with an end score of 2-0, sweeping Seward with set scores of 25-16 and 25-21.

“I think the girls played well and played together. We had a lot of contributions from different players,” coach Mark Novotny said. “A challenge we faced last night was getting to a comfort level in our games. We changed our players around in the match last night and getting used to that was tough.”

In their second game they played Norris, Norris won with a score of 2-0.

Their next game will be on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. against Norfolk at Norfolk.
