On Oct. 14, 2018, Lincoln received an unexpected snow in the autumn.

Weather patterns predicted that there would indeed be snowfall but at the most, only 3.5 inches in Lincoln. Instead, some areas had gotten 5.5 inches.

Tree branches began to break and snap under the pressure of the hulking snow. When the branches fell it even caused power outages along Van Dorn Street, and 20th and 33rd Streets.

Nearly 7,000 people had lost power, but LSE services were able to fix the probably quickly.

“It was cute for a hot second, then it became inconvenient,” said senior Genena Khattak. “It started snowing while I was in Omaha with my mom. We tried waiting it out, then three hours later we decided to come home. On the way we saw 10 cars that had gone off road.”

There were a reported 24 traffic accidents in Lincoln. Some of the traffic lights had even lost power.

“I was very surprised by it,” Said former English teacher Brittany Russell. “I was not in Lincoln because I live in Kansas now, but I saw all my friends pictures on Snapchat. I was crossing my fingers that you guys would have a snow day.”

Currently there are no predictions for snow falls for the rest of the month.
