On Wednesday, April 2, the Lincoln Southwest Student Council will run the second annual Culture Fair in the LSW commons from 5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Admission is free for anyone attending, and any students, families, or community members interested in hosting a booth about their culture can email [email protected] or direct message on Instagram @lsw.stuco for more information.
There will be booths that include cultural information, often with photos, and sometimes relevant items including candy. However, hosts will have the independence over what their booths look like.
“The person does get to decide (the content of the booths), but sometimes people bring food or items that are important to their culture and just things that they want to share with the community,” Student Council member freshman Harnoor Sidhu said. “One of the fun things that we’ve planned is having passports where people will get to go around to different booths and get it stamped, and really just getting to know different cultures.”
In addition to the display of booths, the LPS mariachi band will perform traditional western Mexican music at the event. The organizers believe that Culture Fair is important in spreading awareness about cultural diversity at LSW.
“My favorite part last year was probably the Spanish Honor Society when they were serving the churros,” Student Council member junior Lenna Azucena said. “I think it’s important for people to learn about different cultures so that they’re more educated and connect with others.”
