The varsity and JV boys tennis teams won against Fremont and North Star on Thursday Sept. 19. Varsity won against both teams 6-0. The JV boys won against Fremont 5-1, and Northstar 6-0.

“We won all of our games and just showed great effort throughout it, the entire varsity and JV teams did really well,” sophomore Jack Shaffer said.

Shaffer felt the competition on the JV side was good. However, the Hawks pulled through with the win.

“Fremont, you could tell they weren’t as good, but North Star showed some fight in their JV teams, but overall we were the better team,” Shaffer said.

On the varsity side, the competition was also good for Southwest. They played well against the two other teams.

“It was pretty good competition, definitely competition that we could compete well against, and I think we did that,” senior Blake Benson said.

The team has big goals for the season from here on out. The Hawks are hoping to win every meet, including state.

“Just win all of our meets, win state obviously,” Benson said.

To accomplish this, they are working hard in practice and making sure to be realistic about the competition.

“Practicing hard, taking every meet as it is, we aren’t overlooking everyone,” said Benson.

Varsity’s next game is Monday, Sept. 19, away vs Papillion La-Vista South. JV’s is away vs Northeast.
