On Tuesday, Feb. 22, staff received their classroom plants, either wheatgrass, chia, or barley. Hive Helpers handed them out after planting them the previous week.

“Decorating the plant gives me an opportunity to express myself so the students can see what my emotions are that day and what my personality is like,” Spanish teacher Rosanne Navas said. “I think it’s fun that it has different things that you can be creative with.”

Hive Helpers wanted the plants to have a positive impact on the classroom environment by making staff and students happy. Along with plants, Hive Helpers hoped to create a friendly competition of the best decorated plant.

“We thought having a small competition might encourage more classes to get involved with the decorations,” senior Amelia Schwensen said, “It allows us a chance to share them with the entire school when we publish the photos [on the Hive Helper website] and maximize the amount of people who can get a bit of positivity.”

More information about this competition will come out in an email to staff members on Feb. 25, from Mr. Charley Bittle, the sponsor of the Hive Helpers.
