On Thursday, Sept. 28 from 4:30-6:30 p.m., the LSW Marching Band will perform live music at Wendy’s on 27th and Pine Lake Road. The band will play songs or pep tunes used for their sporting events like “Shut Up and Dance” or “Bad Romance,” outside the drive-thru as customers stop by for food. During the event, 25% of the proceeds from sales will go directly to the marching band.
“It’s important to raise money for the Marching Band because it allows us to get more students involved in the band,” junior Kieston Delka said. “Some students can’t afford to own their own instruments or pay for certain costumes, so raising money just helps students overall.”
So far this season, the LSW Marching Band has performed at one football game and will take the field again at the game against Lincoln East at Seacrest Field on Friday, Sept. 19. The band has been preparing its halftime show since July and began rehearsing pep music two weeks before the start of the school year.
“I feel that we have been working extremely hard as a band to ensure that all sections work together and balance out the sounds of all of our instruments and get all of the choreography right for our shows,” junior Mily Chittenden said. “My favorite part of band is the connections I’ve formed within it. I’ve met people that I probably would’ve never met otherwise.”
The fundraiser also serves to connect the Marching Band with the community, and earn some money by doing it. The fundraiser gives the community an opportunity to see the hard work of the Marching Band firsthand, while also directly contributing to its success.
“What I think will be the most fulfilling part of the Wendy’s profit night is being able to share our pep tunes with the community,” Delka said. “I think it is important that we try to make our music reach any audience that it can because not everyone shows up to the football games to see us play.”
