On Monday, Nov. 4, tickets went on sale for Silver Hawk Theatre’s winter production, “A Christmas Carol.” The show, originally written by novelist Charles Dickens, runs from Thursday, Dec. 5 through Sunday, Dec. 8. Showtimes for Thursday, Friday and Saturday are 7 p.m., with afternoon performances at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
“A Christmas Carol is about the human right, or the human condition, to be able to change,” director Mr. Austyn McKee said. “It’s to live through experiences and realize that maybe our beliefs or perceptions are flawed, and then being able to recognize the lived experiences of others means that we can change and grow.”
The grumpy miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, is played by senior Matthew Killham, and is accompanied by senior Tyler Stover (Bob Cratchit) and sophomore Noah Hendrickson (Jacob Marley), along with three spirits. Sophomore Keegan Brester plays the Ghost of Christmas Past and senior Olivia Rowe plays the Ghost of Christmas Present. The Ghost of Christmas Future will be a digital projection.
“Playing Scrooge has put me in a different perspective,” Killham said. “He’s the meanest person to ever exist, so it makes you realize what’s going through someone’s head and how there’s more going on beneath the surface than you normally realize.”
This production will mark the fourth time that Silver Hawk Theatre has staged “A Christmas Carol.” Previous productions were presented in 2007, 2009 and most recently 2016. However, this will be the first time this show has been directed by McKee.
“I tend to default to maybe the darker side of shows,” McKee said. “The feelings behind the show, the motivations of some of the characters, are just inherently a little less whimsical than maybe we’ve done in the past. But I think that the beauty of us repeating it is it will be different than anytime you’ve seen it in the past.”
Tickets cost $8 for students and alumni or $10 for general admission, and may be purchased by going to silverhawktheatre.com and clicking “Tickets” near the top of the page.
