Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) offers students Chromebook insurance to cover accidental damages that occur to the school-issued Chromebooks. LSW media staff are using the week of Monday, Sept. 23, – Friday, Sept. 27, to promote the Chromebook Assurance Program (CAP.)
“We see kids with chromebooks and they come in with screens that have been cracked because they dropped it by accident or they’ve been thrown out a car window,” Mrs. Michelle Winklepleck said. “Any reason possible we have seen it. If you have insurance you are paying $20 for the school year versus $400 for a brand new device.”
CAP is able to cover full replacement once, consisting of covering the chromebook, bag and charger. CAP only costs $20 per year but $10 for those individuals who qualify for free and reduced lunch. Those wishing to purchase CAP must do it before the end of September.
“I think it’s important to purchase chromebook insurance because you don’t have to pay as much if there is an accident that damages your chromebook,” junior Ezra Erickson said. “I think that sometimes accidents happen that are out of your control and it is good to have coverage for that.”
Staff have been encouraged during the week to wear pins to promote the purchase of Chromebook insurance. The Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS) lesson during that week also covered the subject.
“I would say that this is our last big push to really get people to sign up,” Winklepleck said. “We did try to do a big push during readiness day but we are really trying to get the last bit of people signed up.”
