Southwest’s student newspaper, The Hawk, is proud to introduce online advertisements. Clubs and organizations operating inside Southwest are invited to submit graphics to be shown alongside stories and on the homepage of The Hawk’s website to promote their events and encourage students to join their communities.
As The Hawk rebrands for the 2025-26 school year, the staff has made efforts to increase traffic to the website, whether it be through social media or word-of-mouth. More traffic to the website means more visibility for advertisements.
The first two organizations to utilize these new online advertisements are Silver Hawk Theatre, Southwest’s theatre department, and Drama Club, its associated student-operated club. Posters for upcoming shows and Drama Club meeting announcements are now being shown across the website.
Any teachers, sponsors or student representatives that are interested may fill out the Google Form linked here to have their club or organization advertised on The Hawk.
F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions)
Where exactly will advertisements be shown?
Currently, advertisements can be seen on the homepage (lswhawk.com) and alongside articles (like this one). This is subject to change. Ad panels will cycle between campaigns, so one club’s ad may be shown on one story, and another club’s ad may be shown on another. This is on a per-user basis, so if a sponsor does not see their campaign after a few refreshes (Command+R or Ctrl+R), they can reach out to 2025-26 editor-in-chief Joshua Carl at [email protected].
An ad “campaign” refers to a single advertisement design. This usually entails one event, mission or announcement.
What if a sponsor doesn’t have a graphic to use as an advertisement?
If a sponsor does not have a graphic in-hand, they may request one be designed by The Hawk staff, after given a proper description along with any references or logos that should be used. Sponsors will then be contacted at the email or phone number listed when filling out the form for confirmation.
Will sponsors get to choose how long an advertisement is shown?
Yes, and there are two questions on the form regarding this – one for when the ad campaign should begin (if left blank, the campaign will begin as soon as possible), and one for when the campaign should end.
Can sponsors submit multiple versions of one advertisement?
Yes, but make sure it’s only representative of that one campaign. These may include vertical, horizontal or square versions of that campaign. This does not apply if a club or organization submits multiple campaigns. If a sponsor wishes to submit a separate campaign, they should resubmit the form with that new campaign after submitting the first campaign.
