While the weather is not getting much cooler here in Nebraska, autumn is upon us (hopefully) and one of the best things about this season is that you can watch a cozy fall movie. Whether you’re with friends, by yourself or not watching that football game that the rest of your family is, these movies are perfect to binge watch.
Twilight
The first movie in the “Twilight” saga follows main charcter Bella Swan as she settles into living in a new town. She almost immediately meets Edward Cullen, but she notices something off about him. From there, they become closer and face different challenges throughout the course of the film. While this may be controversial for first place, I feel that Twilight captures the essence of fall, with an example being the darker color grading that the film utilizes. Some may find Twilight “cringeworthy,” but I think it just adds to the novelty of the first movie.

Dead Poet’s Society
This film follows English teacher John Keating and his students as they navigate what it means to be a poet in an elite boarding school. With Keating’s help, the students learn to break out of their shells and pursue their dreams. This particular film takes place during the fall and winter months at a New England boarding school, which is why it is such a great watch for this time of year. This movie also meticulously weaves the importance of individuality and challenging conformity, which I find to be moving.

When Harry Met Sally
“When Harry Met Sally” is a chronicle of a man named Harry and a woman named Sally (crazy, right?) who keep coincidentally meeting over the years. They both don’t believe that a man and woman can be friends, but as time goes on, they become closer to one another. I usually don’t like movies that span over a long course of time, but I feel this particular one spins a beautiful tale of how people can be brought together. Not only does it portray this, but it also shows many views of autumn in New York.

Good Will Hunting
This movie is the tale of two men, therapist Sean Maguire and janitor Will Hunting. Will has a genius level IQ, which gets him discovered by a professor at MIT. Even though he is gifted, he has unresolved issues, so the professor offers him a job so long as he goes to therapy. ¨Good Will Hunting¨ masterfully encaptures the atmospheric New England setting, with scenes featuring the leaves starting to fall. Speaking of, the movie also does a great job of portraying themes such as embracing new beginnings and confronting fears

Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix
The fifth movie in the Harry Potter adventures follows Harry as he learns that many in the wizarding community do not know the truth about an evil wizard. This leads him to prepare a group of students to defend the school against a rising tide of evil. I really liked “Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix” because it starts to introduce more ominous and dark themes, while still keeping that fall-like charm from the earlier movies. This movie stands out from the rest because it starts to connect dots from past movies and there is a looming threat throughout the course of the film.
