“How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” is a romantic comedy starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. The movie follows the two characters, Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry, as they work on different quests within their relationship.
Andie is a writer for a women’s magazine where she has begun to get bored of the stories and wants to write about more important topics. After her friend goes through a break-up and questions what she did wrong, Andie suggests she is super needy. Leading her into writing an article called, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.” To prove the list, she starts dating a guy and purely tries to get broken up with in 10 days.
The guy spoken of is Ben, a marketing executive who is confident in his ability to make any woman fall in love with him. As a bet to earn rights to be the lead in a diamond campaign, he chooses a woman at a bar to fall in love with him in 10 days. The woman chosen at the bar just happens to be Andie.
Without knowing each other’s true intentions they begin to spend time together which almost always ends in disaster. Andie causes Ben to miss the end of the Knicks game to get her a soda and many other irritating behaviors while showing her real personality once in a while. Ben puts up with her actions trying to remember his end goal. Ben tries to stop the weird behaviors by asking Andie to go visit his family together and while visiting, they create a real bond.
They return from the weekend trip to go to Ben’s diamond campaign event where Ben arrives in a black suit and Andie in her beautiful, long, yellow, silk, maxi dress. Later in the night they are told their true motivations with each other by others. Despite learning this they reveal their sincere feelings for eachother.
Although this movie was released in 2003, it has continued to resurface to popularity. Most recently regaining popularity for the yellow satin dress Andie wears. The dress was perfect on Andie and is constantly being recreated as close as possible to the original Carolina Herra designer version. I love this movie for many reasons but specifically because it never goes out of style.
