The Southwest Boys Varsity wrestling beat Northeast at their dual at Northeast High School on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2022.

“I was pleased with the outcome of the match,” head coach Aaron Finley said. “It was our first competition back after break so we were a little rusty but it went very well. I think this weekend at North Star should go over well too.”

The Hawks won 54-27. Winners of this dual in their weight classes were seniors Braxton Peters, Landan McLaughlin and Everett Swartz, juniors Tony Phillips, Kash Bates, Garrett Morgan, Jack Baptista and Cooper Jackson and sophomore Brandon Temple.

“I was proud that (junior) Kyan Young kept wrestling until the end,” McLaughlin said. “Even though he was down by two matches he kept the fight going.”

The wrestling team will be back in action this Saturday, Jan. 15 at North Star at 9:00 a.m.
