On Friday, Aug. 11, students at Southwest High School were sent an email about the new change to how hall passes would work this school year. Southwest implemented a new system called E-Hall Pass on Monday, Aug. 14, to lower the number of students in the halls at one time.
“The district gave a threshold of students,” Principal John Matzen said. “It was 1-3% of the students in the building that could be decided upon so we settled on 2% currently. Then we’ll modify it up or down, depending on what we need.”
Students will go to the portal and search digital hall pass. After logging in, they select where they are leaving from and where they are going. Then an adult in the building will accept the request. If the destination is full it will say “maximum capacity has been reached.” If the student see this message they then have to wait until the destination has a free space.
“I think its a lot more complicated than it needs to be,” junior Mackenzie Bolton said. “I feel like it’s going to take a while to get used to it.”
