The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) hosted varsity State swim and dive. State swim and dive was from Thursday, Feb. 22 to Saturday, Feb. 24. On Friday, Feb. 23, LSW swim participated in competition and LSW girls placed tenth and the boys placed third.
“The most challenging thing was not getting in my head during the competition,” freshman Olivia Brazau said. “I think that we did pretty good. Our biggest competition was Creighton Prep, Marion and East.”
Olivia Brazau finished 21st in the 500-freestyle and 30th in the 100-butterfly.
Schools from Norfolk, Kearney, Grand Island, Omaha and Lincoln all participated at the competition.
“There were a lot of best parts of the competition,” swim and dive head coach Mrs. Tiffany Hale said. “It was nice seeing each of them achieve their goals and seeing kids at their best times and personal bests.”
Senior Aidin Kolb set a new school record, winning the 100-backstroke in 50.01. Junior Aiden Oltman also finished in first in both the 50-freestyle and the 100-backstroke. Junior Ashlyn Penas finished in fourth in the 100-butterfly, junior Grace Lienemann placed fifth in the 100-freestyle and third in 200-freestyle, freshman Meredith Marsh finished eighth in the 100-breaststroke, senior Harrison Frye finished fifth in the 200-individual medley and 100-breaststroke, senior Collin Wilcynski placed third in the 200-freestyle and 100-freestyle, junior Emma Thober finished in seventh in the 100-backstroke and sixth in the 200-individual medley and senior Austin Kamm placed sixth in the 200-freestyle.
