On Tuesday, Feb. 13, the LSW Girls Soccer Program and Students Together Against Cancer (STAC) will team up with the Buffett Cancer Center to make fleece blankets for cancer patients after school in room A100.
“This event was inspired by Kayla Hassler (southwest soccer graduate) in response to her mother’s diagnosis. Our girls soccer program has a history of linking up with other groups for raising awareness,” girls head soccer coach, Mr. Thomas Nettleton said. “One of the goals we have is to make connections to people and service.”
In the last three years the groups have teamed up to donate over 150 blankets to the patients at the Buffett Cancer Center in Omaha.
“It feels good to make a small impact on these patients’ lives because many of the girls have close connections to people going through the same thing,” sophomore Izzie Kiser said. “So it’s hitting close to home for many people.”
To contribute to this cause, donations of fleece can be dropped off in A101 or the athletic office by Tuesday, Feb. 13.
