From Feb. 5- 9, students are working with poultry in the block one culinary classroom. They are learning to break down a whole chicken. They’ll make various recipes, including chicken pot pie, chicken parmesan, chicken tenders, chicken bacon wraps and orange chicken.
“We took apart a chicken from scratch, and we’re using the parts to make different recipes,” senior Jacob Rinn said. “There’s a lot of people who don’t know how to cook for themselves, and they start to form bad habits.”
In culinary, a student gets to explore many different recipes, as well as develop their culinary skills.
“I really like baking. It’s the best part of cooking,” senior Krista Smid said. “When we didn’t have ovens, we had to do a lot of microwave cooking. That really helped prepare for college because you won’t have an oven most times.”
LSW offers many Family and Consumer Science (FACS) classes, culinary being one of them. They provide information that is applicable to a student’s independent life in the future.
“We try to make them as interactive as possible. we really care about our classes and students,” FCS teacher Ms. Sarah Morrow said. “We try our best to make an impact, I think we do that pretty well.”
