The varsity football team demolished Lincoln High 35-0 in their season-opener on Friday, Aug. 25, while on the road at Seacrest Football Field. The Hawks began their season on a strong note.
“My favorite moment of the game (was) probably that first drive (and) touchdown to Jackson Carpenter,” varsity quarterback freshman Brockston Teply said. “I’m feeling good. I feel like it would’ve been a lot different if we would’ve lost the game, but we were really confident.”
Brockston Teply finished the game with two passing touchdowns.
This game marks the second year in a row that Lincoln Southwest has defeated Lincoln High in their season-opener, winning 20-19 last year. Despite Southwest being the away team, the fans made sure their presence was known.
“We were more energized even though it was their (Lincoln High’s) home game,” senior Karston Dames said. “The football players got riled up using the fans’ energy.”
The team will face their next matchup at home against Columbus on Friday, Sep. 1 at 4:30 p.m at Union Bank Stadium.
