Southwest Hosts Takedown for Troops
January 13, 2022
Southwest wrestling is hosting its yearly Takedown for Troops wrestling duel against Southeast Wednesday on Jan 19. The event is designed to raise money for veterans and active members of the armed forces. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the Disabled American Veterans, an organization that helps disabled military veterans and their families.
“My father-in-law is a veteran and both my grandparents were veterans too,” head wrestling coach Aaron Finley said. “I thought it would be a good idea to start some kind of event to help veterans.”
To raise money the team goes around to community members and businesses to help with the event. Funds are also raised through T-shirts, donations, and entry fees. At the end of the event, Finley will announce the total amount of money raised.
“We had to raise money all around for the troops,” sophomore Hunter Jacobsen said. “It’s a pretty fun experience for us because we get to have a nice home tournament and get to provide money for people who need it.”
Takedown for Troops is scheduled to take place next Wednesday against Southeast at
