On Monday, Sept. 11, the varsity softball team played against their long-time rivals the Lincoln Southeast Knights. The Silver Hawks took the victory 4-1, scoring all four runs in the first 3 innings.
So far this season, the Silver Hawks have had six consecutive wins. What makes the team successful is their reliance on each other. The Hawks use teamwork to pull themselves to victory.
“Our success is from our team chemistry. We’ve worked hard from the beginning of the season to get where we are now,” junior infielder Emma Dostal said. “Whenever we play our rivals, we just think about having to do our job. We know how we play and how to reach our potential.”
In the third inning, the Knights cut the lead in half to make the score 2-1. However, the infield was able to end any hopes of Southeast taking the lead. The Hawks’ defense was able to lead them to a win.
“Our defense works really hard in the field,” freshman infielder Hadley Madson said. “If our pitchers can’t defend the lead, we just work around them being able to have contact with the ball.”
After the win against Southeast, the Hawks won again on senior night. Defeating the Lincoln Northeast rockets 11-3.
The Hawks have two double-headers on back-to-back days, Sept. 19 and 20, against Heartland Athletic Conference (HAC) opponents, Kearney and Columbus. Both double-headers start at 5 and 7 p.m. All four games will be held at the Doris Bair Softball Complex.
After the win against Northeast, The Hawks are 12-4. They are currently ranked in the top five out of 31 teams in class A.
