Lincoln Southwest unified bowling kicked off their season with a practice on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Parkway Lanes and the next week, swept Lincoln East 2721-2579 pins on Monday, Oct. 28.
The team’s second practice was Monday, Nov. 4, at Parkway Lanes, gearing them up to compete against Lincoln Standing Bear at Sun Valley Lanes on Monday, Nov. 11. The practice led them to a crushing defeat of knocking down 175 more pins than Standing Bear, leaving their record 2-0 going into their next meet. Later that week, on Thursday, Nov. 14, the team bowled against Lincoln Northeast at Hollywood Bowl and fell to the Rockets by 95 pins.
Even after a loss, the team sang Christmas carols and different songs that they have learned from their time in unified choir on the bus ride home. The team always finds ways to stay energized.
“I love the unified community at Southwest,” said senior Clara Fundus. “Bowling is a great way for me to stay involved with everyone.”
Only a week later, they went up against Lincoln Northwest at Sun Valley Lanes ending their regular season with a win for Senior Night. They finished the regular season 3-1.
“The season has been really good,” said freshman Jace Krings. “I cannot wait for our postseason meets and all of the strikes and spares I will get.”
After their regular season practices and meets, one Lincoln Southwest team will go on to compete in the postseason meets including the HAC Unified Bowling Championship on Monday, Nov. 25 and the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) District Unified Bowling Meet on Monday, Dec. 2, both at Sun Valley Lanes. If they win Districts, they will compete at the NSAA State Tournament on Monday, Dec. 9 at Sun Valley Lanes.
