Hawks’ Late Rally Falls Short

The Southwest football team fell to the Papillion-LaVista South Titans on Friday.

The Hawks entered the game 1-3, coming off a shutout loss to Elkhorn South the previous week.

The first half did not go as planned for the Hawks, as they were down 26-3 at halftime.

“Being down at halftime is a situation we have been in before,” senior Noah Russell said. “So we just talked with Coach Sherman about what the plan is going into the next half and what we can do differently.”

The Hawks would not go down easy, however. Neither team scored in the third quarter, and the Hawks were able to score three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

“We played hard the whole game,” senior Nick Delgado said.”Towards the end of the game when we really got it together and started moving the ball and scoring more was definitely the most positive we had the whole game.”

The Hawks will look to get their second win tomorrow against the Norfolk Panthers, who are also 1-5. Scoring early is one of the focuses for the Hawks heading into the game.

“We just want to stick to our game plan and hopefully get our offense moving early in the game,” Russell said. “We think we match up very well versus Norfolk.” Another focus for the Hawks is improving the offensive attack.

“We hope to improve on how the offense does this week,” Delgado said. “We need to be able to get the offense rolling, or we won’t have much success, but I believe our guys are willing to do what has to be done to get some life in our offense.”

The Hawks’ next game will be against Norfolk on Thursday, Oct. 1 at Seacrest Field.
