The varsity football team will play their last regular season and home game against the Millard North Mustangs on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7:00 p.m. at Seacrest Field. As the Hawks continue their chase for a playoff spot, they will look to capture a victory against a district opponent.
“I think our team has a good chance. We’ve been coached well, working hard in practice and had some good leaders step up,” junior Griffin Semrad said. “I just want to do my job and make sure my teammates all know what they’re doing.”
The Hawks are currently a fringe playoff team ranked fourth in their district. To compete for a playoff spot, the Hawks would need to get their rank to at least the top two. Before Millard North, the Hawks will play an away game against the Millard West Wildcats on Thursday, Oct. 12. Millard West is also in the same district as Southwest, so a win against the Wildcats would boost the Hawk’s chances of making the playoffs.
“I feel like us going into these games, we can really strive to make a lead in our district and make the playoffs. Our team feels pretty confident going into these next few weeks,” junior Ashton Traudt said. “I’m hoping our student section comes loud and ready to cheer us on and hopefully shake Millard North.”
