On Friday, Jan. 10, the girls varsity basketball team took on the Lincoln Southeast Knights, winning 53-37. With the win, they moved to a record of 9-2, with their only losses to Omaha Westside and Bellevue East.
“I think we play really well together as a team. We’re all really close so we have that chemistry,” junior Piper Bellamy said. “We always know where each other are on the court and also know each other’s jobs.”
After that game on Friday they took on Omaha Westside, losing 60-47. Junior Piper Bellamy scored 5 points for the team and the top scorer was sophomore Kaytee Irons-Buettner with 16 points total.
“I feel there’s already room for improvement, and we practice everyday to get better,” sophomore Emersyn Wells said. “We all just have a really good relationship with each other and we’ve been playing with each other for a while, so it’s easy to have a connection.”
At their next game on Tuesday, Jan. 14, they took on Bellevue East, losing with a score of 57-68. Wells had scored 5 points.
“We always talk about how it’s important to peak at the end of the season,” Bellamy said. “I think there’s a lot of room for improvement because it’s not even close to the end of the season. We’re just working hard to get better before the end of the season.”
Their next game will be Friday, Jan. 17, at 5:30 p.m. at LSW against Lincoln Northeast.
