The varsity volleyball team opened their season with a preseason jamboree loss against Norris on Thursday Aug 17. They were defeated 3-1.
Even with the loss, players like junior defensive specialist Reese Boyd still work to build upon the progress they’ve already made.
“I don’t think the loss changes our confidence at all, I think it gives us something to build upon,” Boyd said. “We have a lot of room to grow, but we also have a lot of chances to grow upon what happened last year.”
The loss against Norris was only a minor setback for the team. They are still confident as ever. The team looks to repeat the success they achieved last year, after finishing the season with a 31-4 record.
“I think our chances are pretty high to be successful, considering most of us already play on the same club team,” senior Madison Rink said. “We’ve been together for many years, so we’re pretty experienced.”
The Hawks hope to capitalize on a 3-game-long home stand starting on Aug. 29 against Pius X and Millard North, ending on Sept. 7 with a game against Omaha Westside. They will attempt to avenge their season ending loss to Westside 3-0 in the State Championship semi-finals from a year ago.
