The boys varsity basketball team won their final regular season game 92-50 against Omaha South on Saturday, Feb. 17. The Hawks 42-point victory marks their largest win margin this season and their 92 points was a season-high.
“We shared the ball and played good defense,” sophomore Uzziah Sanders said. “Something about my season that has been good is my defense and shooting.”
The Hawks concluded their regular season with an overall record of 14-7 winning eight out of their final 10 games. Southwest will move onto the postseason where they will face Millard South in Districts.
“We’ve had a lot of ups and downs this season but I feel like it has really built us into who we are now. A lot of people think our season is going to be done on Saturday, but we are playing for five more games until State,” junior Mari Shumaker said. “We have been preparing for the post-season by working hard in practice and outside of practice.”
The Hawks will play Millard South on Saturday, Feb. 24, at LSW at 3:00 p.m. Tickets will be available online for $6 per adult and $5 per student.
