On Thursday, Sept. 26, the varsity football team played in their Homecoming game against South Sioux City. LSW won the game 41-6.
“The game started off pretty slow but we ended up picking it up around the end of the first quarter,” sophomore Barrett Hartwig said. “The team did pretty well working as a team but we need to work on our turnovers and penalties because they throw us back a lot throughout the games.”
This game was the first win of the season for the Silver Hawks. The team’s record is 1-4.
“The starting offense did a lot better getting the ball down the field and passing it,” Hartwig said. “Our line also did a lot better blocking than in previous games.”
The student section theme for the game was camouflage which aligned with the theme for Spirit Week. The theme changes every week for the games.
“I like the camo theme because I think it is different,” junior Kinsley Baumbach said. “My favorite theme is neon because I think the bright colors are fun.”
The next game for Southwest is against Lincoln Northeast on Thursday, Oct. 3 at Seacrest Field at 7 p.m. The theme for the game is jungle.
