The varsity football team will play their Homecoming game against the South Sioux City Cardinals on Thursday, Oct. 5, at Seacrest Field. The Hawks will have an opportunity to win another game alongside a crowd of students preparing for the Homecoming dance the following day.
“The Homecoming game is special to me because it’s one of the two events of the year for football that everyone comes together,” senior Preston Marshall said. “I’m really excited because I think we’re going to get a really good win. It’s the day before homecoming so it will be fun.”
The Hawks had a dominant victory in their Homecoming game last year against the Omaha Bryan Bears, winning 56-0 on Sept. 22, 2022. The Hawks have a 4-1 record in Homecoming games over the last five seasons.
“I hope there’s a lot of fans and it’s loud,” varsity player junior Jackson Carpenter said. “I’m excited, it’s (the Homecoming game) always fun. The mindset is to go in there and get the win.”
While the Hawks have the Homecoming game to look forward to, they will have to take care of business on the road this Friday, Sept. 29 against the Lincoln Southeast Knights at Seacrest Field. Southwest will look to improve to a 3-3 overall record.
