On Aug. 28, the boys and girls cross country teams had their first time trial of the year.

The team and coaches gathered at Pioneers Park at 8:15 a.m. The runners ran a 5k while being timed to determine seeding for varsity or JV at the first meet of the year.

“Performances were good,” Ryan Salem said. “I was proud of all of my runners. They did a great job dealing with the heat.”

The weather was extremely hot, with a high of 96 degrees, and a heat index of 102.

“The weather was not the best. It had been so hot recently which is the opposite of good running weather,” Lizzie Lesoing said. “At least we ran in the morning though.”

The first meet of the year will be an away meet against Papillion LaVista. The teams will race at Walnut Creek at 9 a.m in Omaha.

I’m super excited but very nervous. There is a lot of anxiety associated with running and the long races,” Lesoing said.
