The Lincoln Southwest ACT is happening this Tuesday, April 7. The ACT is a standardized test used for college admissions, assessing skills like Math, Science, English and Reading. The ACT at Southwest is only available to be taken by current juniors. School is not in session while the test is being given. The ACT is paid for by the state.
“The state pays for the ACT because it encourages kids to take it,” Administrator Ms. Hans said. “It also encourages equity and reports how students are doing.”
Some students have been studying for this test for a long time. A lot of effort goes into getting the best score a student possibly can. There are prep courses and study guides that students use in order to be well prepared.
“I’ve been studying for the ACT since last summer,” junior Emily Dodd said. “I’ve been studying for so long because the test can really determine your future and I want that advantage.”
The ACT will start at 8:00 a.m. and lasts for four hours. If a student completes the test early, they still must stay in their designated testing room until the time is up. Teachers and administration at LSW have put in a lot of effort and detail to make sure the test goes smoothly.
“A lot of little things can go wrong,” Hans said. “A lot of things are logistics and communications with the proctors so that things go according to plan.”
