Almost anywhere I go, I hear music. No matter if I am in a store or at somebody’s house. There is almost always music to hear. Everybody has a different taste in music though. There are people who prefer pop over R&B or rock over rap. That makes me wonder what LSW’s students listen to?
“Rock is my favorite music genre,” senior Kayley Luu said. “It has very heavy guitars and drums. Also I like the meanings of them. And they are just very easy to dance to.”
Kayley prefers “Arrows in Action” songs to dance to because she likes the vibes. In her opinion it is calming for her to listen to music and it distracts her mind from overthinking or stressing.
Some people listen to music on their own, while others prefer to listen to music with their friends, family or at concerts. According to the German online platform, Statista, “in 2023, there were around 50,059 live music events worldwide, organized by the Live Nation company.”
“My favorite music genre depends on the day,” sophomore Maddy Thiltgen said. “But right now I’m really into country and rap. I would always listen to country music with my family and I just really like it.”
Many people use music to deal with their emotions or use music as their therapy. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), it is scientifically proven that music is therapeutic.
“When I’m happy, I listen to happy music, and when I’m sad, I listen to sad music. Sometimes you just want to get a good cry,” junior Katie Timmer said. “A song that describes me the best would be anything by Lizzy McAlpine, but specifically, To the Mountains, or, ‘Apple Pie.’”
We can bond with music very quickly when we relate to the lyrics. Most of the time songs are about a specific topic or describe a singer’s situation in their life. Some of my favorite songs are by Beyoncé because most of her songs are about self-empowerment and self-love.
“I would say I listen to music a ton,” junior Maxwell Pritchett Peterson said. “I listen to it every time I’m in my car, and every time I’m composing my own music.”
Music is part of our daily life, we are surrounded by it everywhere we go. Music is like an instrument that plays with our emotions while we listen to it. LSW’s students listen to all kinds of music genres and they are all different from each other just like our personalities.
