Since I got here, I have tried a lot of different American candies. One of my favorite candies I tried are Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. I especially love Reese’s ice cream. They are sweet but not too sweet for my liking. 

I would say that Twizzlers are my least favorite American candy. I feel like they don’t really have a specific taste and also they are very sticky and hard. 

I noticed that I started to eat more candy since I’m in America. Usually, in Germany, I would choose pastry over candy since we have a lot of bakeries and easy access to different pastries. 

In Germany, I would prefer a good piece of apple cake over candy. I especially love to meet up at a cafe with my friends or family and enjoy them there. 

I often feel like American candy is sweeter than candy in Europe. That is probably the reason why many “Haribos,” a company from Germany, taste different than American ones. Even though they originated in Germany. 

Also, American candies are more vibrant than candy from Germany. According to Candy Collections Pick and Mix, “American candy is sweeter than candy in other countries because they add more sweetening ingredients during manufacture. American sweets tend to have more high fructose corn syrup and sugar in their recipes.”

In Germany, we have stores that sell only American candy. But it would be more expensive to get them there. For example, they sell Sour Patch Kids, Nerds or other types of gummies. 

That gives people an opportunity to try American candy without having to go to America.

I love to try different candies from different countries. I feel like every country has their own taste in food. It shows me a lot about their culture and it is so much fun to exchange cultures with others.
