There are millions of dogs that inhabit the Earth. Some are fortunate enough to have their forever home, but the dogs who aren’t as fortunate are roaming the streets for shelter or are caged up in an animal shelter waiting to be adopted. There are many dogs who don’t have access to food, shelter and clean water. Living in the streets can be very dangerous for these dogs. Especially when extreme weather comes around. All dogs deserve to be taken care of.
During the summer, places like Florida, Louisiana and Texas reach extremely high temperatures. These high temperatures make it extremely difficult for humans to walk barefoot on concrete, therefore, it’s even worse for our dogs. There are many dogs worldwide that try to find shelter within these extreme weathers, but many of them can’t.
When animal shelters get too overcrowded, they euthanize the oldest staying dogs to make room for newer dogs. For every day a dog stays at a shelter, they’re one day closer to their euthanization date. Dogs are also miserable in these cages. Instead of being able to play outside with a loving family they are locked up in their separate cages in a room full of many other dogs.
There are multiple ways to make a homeless dog’s life better. One way is through fostering. People can have temporary ownership over a dog until they have their forever home. You would treat the dog as your own and give them love, attention and necessities. Another way is by volunteering at these shelters to help take care of the dogs. Volunteering would allow the dogs to meet someone new and not feel so hopeless. You’d also be able to give them the attention they need. A more permanent solution is to adopt the dog. You’d be able to give them the life they’ve always dreamed of. The dogs would finally have a safe home, constant food source and love. To adopt the dog, you would need a valid identification, a home visit and enough money for the adoption fee.
Some people may say they don’t have the time, space or money to take care of a dog. A simple solution is to promote these shelters to friends and family. Even if you don’t have time to help the dogs there will always be someone else who does have the time.
A dog’s life is short, so why not make their life better. Even if you can’t permanently take care of a dog there are many other simple ways to brighten their lives.
