I have been in the U.S. for 10 months but now my exchange year is coming to an end. I am heading back home to Germany in about two weeks.
I am very excited to see my family and be back home. My exchange year was very colorful with good parts and bad parts. In the end, I am glad I did an exchange year. I met a ton of friendly people and tried out many new things while being here.
Here in America, I met my best friend. I can safely say that this friendship is going to last forever. We collected a lot of great memories and she helped me so much throughout my exchange year.
My 5 top favorite things about America are:
- Burgers. I love American Burgers, they taste really good. And I feel like everywhere I go there are Burgers.
- Culver’s ice cream. In my opinion their ice cream is very favorable and my friend and I almost go there once a week.
- The People. I met a lot of friends at LSW. I am so proud that I got to be a Silver Hawk and get to know all those wonderful people here.
- Candy. I believe that American candy is sweeter than the candy from Germany. The candy here is very fun and has fun different flavors.
- America’s size. America is so big. I once drove from Nebraska to Arizona with my host mom. I got to see the beautiful mountains of Colorado and the breathtaking landscape of New Mexico.
The last two weeks in America are kind of weird. I am preparing to say goodbye to my friends and preparing to leave Southwest. It is an uncomfortable thought to know that I probably won’t see certain people ever again. It is time to get back to my life. I am ready to go back to my school in Germany and say bye to my American friends.
I am totally planning on coming back here and visiting my friends. And who knows, I might stop by Southwest. My teachers here have really found a special place in my heart. I was very fortunate with my teachers and coaches and I’m so thankful for everything they did for me.
It’s time for me to go now. Thank you for your attention. Always be grateful and don’t forget that every day is a special day, because you never know when the next goodbye comes.
