Thursday, Dec. 5, marks the start of the winter sports season. Winter sports at Lincoln Southwest include basketball, swim & dive, wrestling and bowling. They will all have their first game or meet on Thursday, but bowling will have their first meet on Friday, Dec. 6. Kicking off their third season, will be varsity girls wrestling with their first match on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 5:00 p.m at Standing Bear.
“I hope to maintain my record, I had a really good record last year,” senior Savannah Wright-Brase said. “I also want to push up the lowerclassmen that are coming in, because we have only one girl from last year.”
Boys and girls basketball will have multiple games on both Thursday, Dec. 5, and Saturday, Dec. 7. For their first round of games on Thursday they will be away at Lincoln East, and their next round of games will be at home on Saturday against Elkhorn South High School.
“I like how playing basketball makes me feel,” freshman Aleah Boyd. “I just feel calm and only think about what’s in the moment.”
Swim and dive will have their first away meet on Thursday, Dec. 5 against Lincoln East. Diving will be at 4:30 p.m and swim will be at 5:30 p.m.
“The practices are so fun, because you’re swimming with your friends. I also really like the competitive aspect for high school swimming,” senior Ashlyn Penas said. “You’re not just swimming for yourself, you’re swimming for your team.”
Finally, varsity bowling has their first meet on Friday, Dec. 6, at Parkway Lanes at 3:15 p.m. against Lincoln Southeast. This will be varsity bowling’s third season as well.
“I like hanging out with people and getting to talk in between bowling,” sophomore Sawyer Bruggeman said. “I also like seeing everyone come together and cheer everyone on. It’s so much fun hanging out and learning more about people.”
